If you have known our family for very long you would have known that we are not pet people. Our pets have been few and far between. The turtle we gave away. To much dirty water changing. For a very short time we had two hamsters but as soon as they escaped that was that. One time we took in a rabbit. That lasted about a week. It bit innocent bystanders for NO reason! At one point we rescued a Jack Russel. We had her for about a year and a half. We had a love hate relationship. We liked her, but had no control over her. Once she realized she could jump our fence we decided that we couldn't keep her safe, or the neighbors cats for that matter. She was gladly welcomed back from the people that gave her to us.
So then it was fish. Easy, safe, no issues of fence jumping, escaping or biting. Its been that way for about five years now. I have to say, I do enjoy my fish but lately we have been a little bored with them. As far as dogs go, after our last experience we decided that if we were to ever get a dog we would get a puppy so that when it is grown it will have our own personal touch of dog type issues. BUT, it would have to have certain qualities. No shedding since we have allergies, no excessive barking, mellow personality, small would be nice, less food and ya know what else. So, it seemed that having a dog would not be in our future. Until, some good friends of ours rescued two puppies called Coton de Tulear. After seeing them we fell in puppy love! It has been in the back of Noah's mind that a good fit for us might be a Bichon Frise. It just happens that Cotons are related to that type of dog along with Maltese. So we started to read about Cotons to learn if this might be the dog we could live with. Well, we made the jump! We got a puppy!
This is monumental for us as a family. My children had just resigned to the idea that it was impossible for us to have a dog. Until now. My older girls (16 and almost 14) are still in shock. I can happily tell you that so far so good. We have been enjoying our little guy so much. He has been doing great for us. Here is a picture of our new puppy. We call him zak short for zachaeus (the wee little man). See how cute! Now, I think we just need another baby, if the Lord wills.
