Watermelons

Clair's watermelon is finally ready!
The vine was in our front yard in front of our house for a long time. We got 2 melons off it. ;)

A few weeks before we even knew we had some melons growing on the vine, during our morning bible time, Clair prayed that God would give her some watermelons. A few weeks later, momma and her were outside, and momma found a big watermelon growing!(third picture)

This is when we picked her FIRST watermelon. :) She was beaming with happiness.

Mrs. Morton speaking.

"What you lookin' at?"

It was so bright out poor Clair had a hard time smiling. :)

There were some very cute kittens that all the little ones loved.

Doesn't it look like a house from a magazine... just take away the cars. (NO editing on the grass and sky! They were so bright.

Our experimental Garden

Last Sunday, I was sharing about our adventures in the garden and realized, I should make a post about it. Elise is our resident farmer. She is the one out there everyday working on it. This is our third attempt to try to grow something at home. Our first year was a container garden. The weather turned bad and we had a real bad couple of storms and lost all the tiny beans and tomatoes. The next year we planted in the back yard. That was too shady. All we got was some very small ears of corn and very small, but cute, potatoes. This year we decided to plow in the front yard, and so far so good!
Elise marking off a plot.

About a week after planting.

A few weeks later.
Today!

Boaz the farmer.

A good looking tomato.

A little carrot.

So after we had planted our little plot we realized it would be great to have it a little bit bigger. So we marked off another small area and away we went.

Noah using our brother in-laws tiller. That made it go real fast.
Good work Boaz.
Elise putting a boarder around it. Makes it look nice.
A few weeks after we tilled and planted.
Today! You can see we put some beans in there too.
So, hopefully we will actually get to eat the fruit of our labor this year. It has been fun for us, as a family, to work on it. It amazes me that you put this tiny seed in the ground and get food to eat. Have a great day!

Our first fruits!

I thought these were so cute! We have a very small artsy looking garden. Our kind neighbors call it the Orenczak "Secret Garden". Noah and the girls have been experimenting with all sorts of plants. These potatoes were grown in buckets. I am very pleased with the effort they have put into it. Noah said today that he thinks our best success so far is our compost.

We have more green beans coming. They are too small yet. Noah said Thank God we aren't hungry! Ha ha Hee hee! Lots of tomatoes though. We are learning lots of things about growing food. For instance you should not plant in the shade! Its quite shady behind our house. I am glad to gain the knowledge and think our next season will prove that.

These are THE BIGGEST Marigolds I have ever seen! Kathleen planted these along with some sun flowers. The marigolds are probably 3 & 1/2 feet tall. The marigolds I'm familiar with are normally about 12 inches tall. They have tons of blooms too. I have been enjoying flowers in and around the house needless to say.

Well just thought I would share some of our gardening adventures.

Nana and Papa got goats.

My Nana and Papa got goats!

We don't have any pictures right now, but when our camera is back (Elise has it in TX) we will have pictures of the baby goats.
Papa and Nana got three goats, the mama's name is Sugar, she is black&white, and her two little boys are Pepper and Bambi.
Pepper looks like his mom, and Bambi is light brown and has little horns on his head!
(They are so cute.) ;o) And it will always be safe/clean to pet Pepper and Bambi. ;P
